Lace wigs have become increasingly popular in recent years because they offer a more natural and versatile look than traditional wigs. At Straight From The Scalp, we only use Raw hair to construct our units. The Raw hair bundles are attached to a lace cap that fits snugly over your head.
If you are new to wearing lace wigs, the following step-by-step guide will help you learn how to apply one properly.
Step 1: Prepare Your Hair
Before applying a lace wig, make sure that your hair is prepared properly. If you have long hair, tie it back and braid it close to your scalp. If you have short hair, brush it back and secure it with bobby pins. The best foundation is cornrows that go straight back. You can also wear a wig cap to keep your hair in place.
Step 2: Clean Your Skin
To ensure that the lace wig stays in place, you need to clean your skin around your hairline. Use a gentle cleanser to remove any dirt, oil, or makeup from your face. Make sure your skin is completely dry before proceeding.
Step 3: Position The Wig
Place the wig on your head, starting at the front of your hairline. Gently push the wig back until it fits snugly on your head. Adjust the wig until it sits comfortably on your head and feels secure.
Steph 4: Cut The Lace
Lace wigs have a lace cap that needs to be trimmed to fit your hairline. Use sharp scissors or an eyebrow razor to cut the lace along the hairline. It is best to use a jagged or zig zag cut (motion). This will avoid the lace being detectable at certain angles. Cut small sections at a time and avoid cutting too close to the hairline. Be EXTRA careful when using HD lace. Pulling to hard while cutting can cause the lace to rip.
Step 5: Apply Adhesive
Once you have trimmed the lace, it is time to apply the adhesive. There are different types of adhesives available, but the most common ones are spray adhesives like Ebin, Got2Be and Bold Hold Liquid Gold.
Apply the adhesive along your hairline, making sure to cover the entire area where the lace will be attached. Allow the adhesive to dry until it becomes tacky. Next, lay the lace on top of the tacky area, position to your liking.
Step 6: Getting That Melt Effect
Once you have position the lace/wig to your liking, apply your edge headband to tie around the perimeter of your head. Allow the band to sit for 5-10 mins for the product to dry and then remove. What you should get is the ultimate melt that will appear as if the hair is coming STRAIGHT FROM THE SCALP!!
Step 7: Finishing Touches
Once the wig is in place, you can style it as desired. You can use a flat iron or curling iron to style the hair, but be careful not to damage the lace. If your lace is not matching your complexion, you can use liquid or powder foundation of your choice to get the lace and skin to blend.
